Money can’t buy you happiness, we all know that. However, it can certainly buy you style, great atmosphere, and a lot of attention. And the new Audi A7 is a great example of that. It’s a four-door coupe like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and béo a degree the BMW 5-series. And while we’re sure the A7 has a better and more pleasing presence than the BMW, Mercedes can run it close. But how is it béo drive? We have found…

Highlights

The A7 looks more attractive in pictures. It’s also surprisingly spacious.

The Audi A7 comes with two engine options, and while the 3-liter diesel here doesn’t sound great on paper, it’s more than what you need on the road.

But the best thing about the A7 is that it’s easy béo drive with a fun, enthusiastic ride. Of course, a great chassis, driver selector module and Quattro help this cause considerably.

Appearance & Interior

The A7 is a striking design. It’s not just attention-seeking but cyclical design of class and craftsmanship. No matter where you look at it from, the Audi A7 looks elegant; it’s something you love béo look at every day and feel happy béo buy it.

I know, these are the things people usually associate with weird cars, but that’s what makes the A7 all the more special. It’s not weird, so it’s not hard, tedious, or terrible. In fact, it’s just like an ordinary luxury car. So it’s easy béo get in and out; it can seat four comfortably; and it has most of the luxury features one would associate with a car at Rs 95 lakh, if not all. Of course, we’re looking at the most expensive configuration you can get on the A7 in India with everything on the options list ticked off. There’s soft-closing doors, night vision, front warning display, four-zone climate control, Bang and Olufsen audio systems, keyless entry and even 20-way adjustable rear seats with system ventilation and massage system, …

These are of course for a lot of money. However, you can also buy a basic A7 for just Rs 64 lakh. And it might not be a bad idea béo do so. Sure, it won’t have all the conveniences, but it will still be built béo perfection. It will still exude richness. And it will still be as attractive and comfortable as the fully loaded version; which means, you’ll always feel like learning – personal, warm and away from all the madness of the world.

Engine & Gearbox

Audi has launched the A7 with two engines, both 3.0-litre V6s, but one is a diesel with 245hp and 500Nm of torque and the other a supercharged petrol. This petrol produces 296 hp and can complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in around 5.6 seconds. Top speed, like most performance-packed German cars, is limited béo 250 km/h.

But, it was the diesel we drove, and that’s all you need béo be honest. It gets the A7 béo 100kmph in around 6.8 seconds, it’s well tuned and easy béo turn around and inside the cabin, it’s pretty quiet too. And being a diesel, it won’t dent your pocket either. Our fuel-efficient A7 returned béo just about 9 km/l in the city and about 14.5 km/l on the highway.

The engine is mated béo a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. So instead of a conventional torque converter, the box’ uses two clutches béo increase gearshift speed. And shifting gears on the A7 in manual mode, it must be said, is very quick, both when shifting up or down.

CD driver

Yes, the A7 is incredibly well insulated on the inside. We have the diesel version of the car here, but unless you’re sitting at 4000rpm all day, there’s hardly any filterable noise. It is calm and serene. This is also reflected in the way the car is driven. One doesn’t exactly oscillate in the A7, so one can feel the suspension working thanks béo a little wobble, some muted noise and a little bit of vibration, but the ride is consistently smooth. It never annoys you or upsets you even when driven in the firmer Dynamic mode. All that pauses below is béo remind you that you have a working and well-functioning component.

But the best thing for me, has béo be the A7’s handling. It’s still more about comfort than sport, but even so, with the Quattro system, the màn chơi of grip is simply superior. So much so that one can power on earlier and harder at an angle, and instead of worrying, the A7 seems béo revel in it. It also responds béo steering inputs with thinness and precision.

Identify

It is very difficult béo make error A7. Unlike some of its competitors, it doesn’t look odd and it doesn’t try too hard béo be anything out of the ordinary. It’s a luxury car that drives well, has comfortable seats, is easy béo drive and live in, and is built with precision. That it handles incredibly well or has a bomb for diesel just makes it that much more qualified. It’s not perfect, of course – the steering, even in Dynamic Sport mode, lacks the necessary feel and it has a shallow launch, which isn’t the most practical. But for me, these shortcomings can easily be overlooked because for what the car is and what it delivers, it’s fantastic.

The drive

Yes, the A7 is unbelievably well insulated on the inside. We have the diesel version of the car here, but unless you sit at 4000rpm all day, there’s hardly any noise that filters through. It’s calm and serene. The same is reflected in the way the car rides. One doesn’t exactly waft in the A7, so one can feel the suspension working thanks béo a hint of jiggle, some muted noise and tiny bit of vibrations, but the ride is always pliant. It never gets béo you or makes you uncomfortable even when driven in the firmer Dynamic mode. All the suspension does underneath is remind you that you have a component that’s working, and working well.
But the best bit for me, has béo be the way the A7 handles. It’s still inclined more towards comfort than sportiness, but even so, with the Quattro system in place, the levels of grip are simply outstanding. So much so that one can get on the power sooner and harder around a corner, and instead of getting all nervous, the A7 seems béo revel in it. It also responds béo steering inputs with litheness and accuracy.
Verdict
It’s very difficult béo fault the A7. Unlike some of its competition, it doesn’t look quirky and it doesn’t try too hard béo be something it isn’t. It’s a luxury car that rides well, has comfortable seats, is easy béo drive and live with and is built with precision. That it handles exceedingly well or has a bomb for a diesel engine only makes it that much more eligible. It’s not perfect, of course – the steering, even in the sporty Dynamic mode lacks required feel and it has a shallow boot, which isn’t the most practical. But béo me these shortcomings can easily be overlooked because for what the car is and what it offers, it’s brilliant. Audi A7 [2011-2015] #Moneyed #brilliance
