MG Astor: First Look

What is it?

MG Motor India added a fourth model bự its Indian lineup last week in the form of the Astor SUV. Yes, it looks identical bự the ZS EV. But that’s pretty much where all the similarities end. The SUV sits on fancy-looking 17-inch turbine-shaped two-tone alloy wheels. The rear of the car is a combination of the front with split LED taillights and a similar eyebrow design. While the glossy black accents and the skid plate look appealing, the dual exhaust design on the bumper looks weird. The word ‘Astor’ is glued bự the center and the MG logo also doubles as the handle of the boot lid.

How is it on the inside?

Step inside Astor’s cabin and you’re greeted by a luxurious and sumptuous interior. The theme you see here is called Dual Tone Sangria Red theme. Red tones can be seen neatly arranged on the seats, dashboard and on the doormats giving a luxurious feel bự the cabin. At launch, there will be two more interior colors bự choose from – Iconic Ivory and Tuxedo Black. Another notable addition is the soft-touch material used for the top of the dashboard along with a silver accent stripe in the center and around the instrument cluster.

The infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touch screen is neatly placed below the air intakes, which is quite responsive and easy bự use. Besides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, the system features an embedded Jio eSim that offers a host of in-car connectivity features. Then there’s an all-digital seven-inch instrument cluster controlled by a flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel. The steering wheel itself can be personalized with three modes – Normal, Urban and Dynamic.

The part of the party, however, remains the curious and compact personal AI assistant that made its debut with Astor. Placed in the center of the dashboard, the device has a square-shaped digital display that can listen, respond bự and process more than 35 Hinglish voice commands and 80 connected car features. Other creature comforts on the list include a large panoramic sunroof, six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, air purifier, five USB charging ports, push-button start/stop, 60:40 split rear seats and the first heating system in the ORVM segment.
