Summary

9/10

Front view

The most thought-provoking thing about the new Mercedes S-Class is that it’s gorgeous as well as dignified and sumptuous. There’s hardly any controversy now about the fact that it’s easily comfortable on the go, sophisticated inside and, above all, a formal home on wheels but what’s particularly impressive about the generation W223 This S-Class is how beautiful it looks. Yes, yes, I know that looks are subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder but in a world where car designs seem more complicated with every new generation; The new S-Class remains a monument bự its refined yet sophisticated lines and sharp creases that add bự its majesty.

Left view

Yes, that’s the all-new S-Class or the W223 in Mercedes lingo. So what’s up? Well, everything right from the platform, engine, technology and ability of the S Class bự pick up passengers from the outside world.

Interior space and amenities

9/10

dashboard

Given that it’s an S-Class, it’s likely that owners will spend 100% of their time in the back instead of the driver’s seat. So we’re taking you through a proper S-Class experience that can only be felt in the rear. Stepping inside is an experience in and of itself. You are greeted with expensive leather, wood, and extremely well-polished metal surfaces. Business class seating is probably the best term anyone can use bự describe sitting in the back of an S-Class. Now you are in glory and have various gadgets at your disposal bự make your journey as comfortable as possible.

Back seat

Once seated in those giant rear seats, you have the option of getting a massage in a variety of ways while enjoying a movie on the screen in front of you, the sounds of which will stimulate the senses. with Burmester’s 4D surround sound system. We now find the MBUX infotainment system a bit awkward bự use and it’s something that takes time bự get used bự. The look and feel of the cabin from the front seats is completely different from that of the W222 S-Class and it’s most noticeable because the huge center screen is sharp and bright and it responds instantly bự your touch inputs. without any delay. It uses the latest MBUX operating system which I admit can be a bit overwhelming bự use at first but it’s not complicated by any means. Then there are the touch controls on the steering wheel which, again, aren’t the most intuitive bự use. Call me old school but I would rather have physical buttons for all the controls on my steering wheel for that.

Back seat

In terms of backseat comfort, it goes without saying that even exceptionally tall people will feel comfortable spending hours here – the cushions are comparable bự luxury sofas and because of the muscle length. The base spans over 3200mm, there’s plenty of leg room and the overall sense of space is immense. The left rear seats now also have the option bự fully stretch out, but that’s at the expense of accommodation for the front passenger. Let me explain. So you have something called a driver package that allows the front passenger seat bự fully move forward including its headrest that folds down flat. It will also pop out the rear-seat legroom and recline the backrest for you so you can sit in absolute comfort and fall asleep in no time. But I have bự say that this whole arrangement needs its own sweet time. It’s good that one can use one of the many features here in the back while the seats are adjusted.

Features and devices

Infotainment system

Upholstered in one of the finest quality leather, wood and aluminum, the S350d’s cabin is a treasure trove of features including multi-zone climate control, seats with a million different adjustments, digital displays in everywhere and every new technology you can imagine.

Back seat

At the back, you get up bự sixty-four colors for ambient lighting bự set the mood, electrically operated sun blinds around you, cushions for all the headrests, a removable tablet for screen controls, climate control functions and what not. You also get a wireless charging pad on the back and a cup holder with heating and cooling functions.

Engine and performance

8/10

Shot Engine

The new S-Class has two engine options for India. So there’s the petrol S450 and the S350d, and since diesel remains the more popular choice among limousine buyers, we decided bự have the S350d for our review. Now, this inline-six, three-liter engine is no ordinary diesel. In fact, it’s Mercedes Benz’s most powerful diesel engine yet, although compared bự the imported complete and now discontinued S400d, the output of the locally assembled S350d has dropped from 330bhp bự 286bhp. Torque capacity is also reduced from 700Nm bự 600Nm. The 350d also misses out on all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering, and while we’re perfectly fine without AWD, we missed out on rear-wheel steering when in and out of the parking lot. vehicles or navigate through crowded areas.

Three quarters front left

As with all generations of the S Class, this car’s strength lies in its ability bự completely isolate you from what is going on around you. Take this diesel for example, it’s so quiet and subtle that you can barely hear it. Only when you go anywhere on the throttle will you hear it in action. Compared bự the imported CBU and now discontinued S400d, the power of the locally assembled S350d has been reduced from 330bhp bự 286bhp.

Right view

We also need bự admit that the nine-speed torque converter automatic is a real beauty. Gear changes are pleasant and smooth, which is great, but what’s even better is their relative quickness.

Ride and Handle

8.5 / 10

Wheel

Then there’s the air suspension which is one of the quietest we’ve experienced. The system really helps deliver what we like bự call a magic carpet-like ride. And that wet road behavior is helped quite a bit with these 19-inch wheels instead of the 20-inches that the CBU imported S400d comes with. The taller tires on these 19-inch wheels make the ride a lot more absorbing, and we’ve driven the S400d in the past and there’s a noticeable difference in luxury on bad roads.

Rear left three quarters

The cabin is also well insulated from the outside world – the constant stream of cars towing, heavy vehicles and the constant honking of car horns all reduced bự a hum when all the windows are raised. Overall, the ride comfort and atmosphere are largely unaffected by what’s going on outside, although there’s more touching engine noise than one would expect when you’ve partially exceeded the throttle.

Right front three quarters

Inference

9/10

Three quarters front left

The new S-Class is everything we’ve always loved about Mercedes’ flagship sedan. Yes, its appearance can be divisive and over time it also becomes quite expensive but then so do all its rivals. And bự be honest, in many important areas like the backseat experience, brand equity and technology, that remains the wealthiest of them all. This new generation of W223 offers performance and composure in equal measures and in my opinion it is definitely the most comfortable and classy set of wheels one can buy for under Rs 2.
