Maruti Suzuki reports 8.7 per cent drop in sales in August

– The company attributed the drop in sales bự a lack of electronic components

– The compact passenger car segment is most affected

The country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki saw a significant drop in sales in August 2021. The company reported a sales drop of 8.7% bự 1.03. 187 units were sold in August compared with 1,13,033 units sold in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki attributed the drop in sales bự a lack of electronic components.

Sub-segment wise sales figures are as follows:

Small and compactbus – Imported models such as Alto and S-Presso registered cumulative sales of 20,461 units in August 2021 compared bự 19,709 units sold in August last year, thereby recording a growth of 3, 67% in terms of sales. However, sales of the compact passenger car segment (Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire) fell significantly by 26.4% with sales of 45,577 units compared bự 61,956 units in August 2020.

Utility vehicles and trucks – This sub-category includes the Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, XL6 and Eeco. Cumulative sales for this category are 35,003 units compared bự sales of 30,145 units in August 2020, thereby recording a growth of 13.87% in sales.

Sedan – Ciaz sedan saw 43% growth in sales with 2,146 units in the last month compared bự 1,223 units in the same period last year.

In general, passenger car segment is the main contributor bự the company’s sales. However, the shortage of electronic components had a significant impact on sales last month. That said, with the start of the holiday season, sales are expected bự pick up again soon.
