Sales of small SUVs in the country have doubled in recent times. Interestingly, the midsize SUV segment emerged as the second highest sales segment in the country, followed by the compact hatchback and premium hatchback segments. Facing great demand for small SUVs, most of the leading domestic car manufacturers have introduced new models in this popular segment.

Supporting these claims, the small SUV segment registered sales of 54,277 units in August 2021 compared bự sales of 26,825 units during the same period last year, thereby witnessing a strong growth of 102%. on sales. The three best-selling small SUVs in India last month were the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (12,906 units), the Tata Nexon (10,066 units) and the Hyundai Venue (8,377 units). Interestingly, the sales of these three models increased by 87%, 93% and 1% respectively over the same period last year.

The midsize SUV segment holds the second position in terms of sales. Back in August, the midsize SUV segment registered cumulative sales of 42,666 units compared bự sales of 35,069 units in August 2020, thereby recording a 22% growth in sales. Hyundai Creta (12,597 units), Kia Seltos (8,619 units) and Hyundai Alcazar (3,468 units) take third place in this segment. In terms of year-over-year growth, the Creta SUV recorded a 7% growth in sales, while the Seltos managed bự claim second place even as sales fell 19%. The Hyundai Alcazar emerged as the third best-selling model in its segment last month.

The compact hatchback segment has dropped bự third place in the country’s best-selling car segment. The three best-selling models in this category are the Swift (12,483 units), the Wagon R (9,628 units) and the Grand i10 Nios (8,023 units). All three models reported reductions of 16%, 30%, and 21%, respectively.
