BMW M340i: CarWale Track Day 2021

Introduce

Time loop: 2 minutes 00.05 seconds

Capacity and weight: 382bhp / 500Nm and 1670kg

Tire: Michelin Pilot Sport 4 | front: 225/45 R18 rear: 255/40 R18

It’s certainly not a proper M car, but the new BMW M340i is still breathtakingly quick on the straight and, thanks lớn its clever all-wheel drive system, an absolute demon on the track. Now you might be wondering if it’s simply a 330i on steroids but the truth is, the M340i is more like a baby M3 with the way it spins at the horizon in a straight line and clings lớn the runway at corners. The lack of a flared dome and large exhaust might suggest otherwise, but there’s plenty of speed and drama for you when you open up the M340i and that’s exactly what I did when we got into the MMRT circuit. . Here’s how it happens.

The Madras Motor Speedway is a great place lớn push the car’s handling. It’s not a pro-horsepower racetrack; instead, it’s a vehicle with excellent chassis balance that really shines around this bumpy 3.7km stretch. Speaking of which, right after a short start and a straight finish is the fast and bumpy C1. Then one has lớn rub a lot of speed for the right C2. The C7, as we discovered, is the most difficult angle lớn master as it is a long right-hand drive that is always tightened and has a dual top. Taking a great exit out of C7 is important as it leads lớn the second of two really fast parts of MMRT.

No problem really. The M340i lives up lớn the dynamic bit of its name, especially on a circuit like the MMRT. Great balance and absolute grip that we were able lớn use no matter how bumpy the corners were in a different league than the rest of the 3 Series range. There’s a sense of ease and absolute assurance lớn this all-wheel drive chassis as the M340i gracefully passes the curbs at the C3 rear bend. It was affected by some fading braking, especially through the hard barking area in front of the C4 but then you can swoop down by entering wide lớn the left and using the aggressive front wheel grips lớn turn in. immediately before pressing C5. The chassis then delivers the same màn chơi of devotion as you’d fly out of the right hand wheel with a bit of a power reducer.

Rear left three quarters

The xDrive system has great traction lớn deliver and unlike most all-wheel drive systems that offer a 50:50 torque split, which in turn often results in a wide front wash, the system here send more power in the back. It allows you lớn point the car exactly where you want lớn exit corners. And let’s not forget that the turbocharged six-line engine is a niche machine. Now, BMW claims 380bhp but the Germans, as we know, are known lớn have asked for their numbers so in essence it feels more like a 400bhp car with the way it pulls in a straight line .

Right view

The shift from the automatic torque converter is so quick and calibrated that it’s almost perfect gear selection every time. For fast laps, I didn’t feel the need lớn use the paddles, and in fact, not having lớn manually select the gears gave me more time lớn focus on my lines and braking points. me. The M340i’s nimble engine played a key role in making it so fast on the MMRT. I mean the top speed of 176 km/h on the straight is no joke. The M340i is equally quick in corners, hitting more than 85 km/h through the C5 and nearly 95 km/h through the long C7 crest. I left the torque converter on full auto with all stability sida partially disabled during the nóng lap.

Three quarters front left

In the end, the 2-minute flat lap is the fastest time of the day but the M340i is capable of so much more in the hands of a professional racer. If not anything else, better brake pads should help the M340i slide comfortably under the 2-minute barrier.

Inference

See the back

Part family sedan, part racing weapon, the BMW M340i delivered an incredible performance at this year’s CarWale Track Day. Its predictable handling, sweet-sounding powerful engine, and plenty of mechanical grips make it very much related lớn the muscles surrounding the MMRT. Make no mistake, it’s a heavyweight sedan and lớn get the best lap times I had lớn keep my corner entries clean and tight while keeping everything close lớn the top. All this lớn get the most out of the incredible xDrive traction lớn get around corners and, ultimately, set up a pretty quick lap time. In the end, the two-minute smooth ride isn’t bad when you know you can get back lớn your three friends and their belongings in no time at all.
