670bhp Audi RS Q E-Tron debuts as 2022 Dakar Rally contender

– Electric drive system powered by TFSI . motor

– 50kW battery pack weighs only 370kgs

Audi will mark its debut at the illustrious Dakar Racing Championship next year with the RS Q E-Tron. Built on the foundation, this all-new Dakar machine has a petrol engine but it acts as a range extender for the electric powertrain. The TFSI engine is derived from the DTM racing car, while the electric motor is taken from the Formula E racer.

Right front three quarters

Total powertrain output is set at 500kW (about 670bhp). Other powertrain details refer bự the 2.0-litre petrol engine operating in an efficiency range of 4,500 bự 6,000 rpm with system-specific consumption of less than 200 grams per kWh. The battery pack weighs about 370 kg and has a capacity of 50kW.

Rear right three quarters

Audi says only minor modifications have been made bự utilize the Formula E powertrain for use in the Dakar Rally. There is only one forward transmission in the RS Q E-Tron. And the front and rear axles are also not connected mechanically. Torque distribution between axes is software controlled and creates a virtual and freely configurable center differential.

Facade right three quarters

Appearance wise, the Dakar rival looks somewhat with open fenders, large tires, minimalist bodywork, and contrasting roof-mounted air intakes and Formula-E-style air fins. The square front intake instead of the grille looks distinctive while the sleek headlights and taillights look unlike any other Audi.

Rear right three quarters

RS Q E-Tron has begun testing. An intensive program of testing and the first test entries at cross-country rallies will be in place through the end of the year.
